Public health doctor and mum of three Imogen Stephens has joined the Board at Coastal West Sussex Mind.
Imogen has worked in Scotland and England in a wide range of roles and settings including for the NHS, government, research and charities. Previously, she was director of public health for Western Sussex PCT.
"I have always had a strong interest in mental health and well-being so am excited to become a trustee with CWSX Mind," she said.
"As a mum of three young people, I am very aware of the pressures facing families and am especially concerned about the mental health issues affecting young people. I am interested in encouraging people to find their own routes towards recovery and resilience and, where possible, not necessarily through conventional medical treatment plans.
"As a public health doctor, I know that investment in education, prevention and resilience is key to improving wider health and mental health and well-being."
She added that her role as director of publich health for Western Sussex PCT had given her a good understanding of this part of West Sussex, where she also lives, and the challenges that our communities face.
She added: "Mental health and physical health are two sides of the same coin: we need to look at both when considering fresh approaches. Everyone has mental health so let's celebrate that, and help as many people as possible to be as mentally healthy as they can be."
