Volunteering with CWSX Mind has been a great way to build my confidence and find my way back in to work after having a family.
I started out as a driver for the 'out & about' group in Midhurst which encourages people to get outdoors and connect with nature as part of their recovery, visiting a local beauty spot for a couple of hours each week.
I had a great time discovering new places with some inspiring individuals and by, spending time with people experiencing a range of mental health difficulties, began to learn how people can be supported to manage their own well-being.
I gradually took on new responsibilities, and built my skills and confidence with the help of regular supervision from a member of staff. I loved the work and found it incredibly rewarding, so I was thrilled when I was asked to do some sessional work as a recovery support worker. Since then, I've been supported to develop my knowledge and experience, and have continued my career with Coastal West Sussex Mind.
I would highly recommend volunteering with CWSX Mind to anyone with an interest in mental health. With just a few hours a week, it's a fantastic way to develop your CV with transferrable skills and experiences, whilst giving back to your community.
