Singing group boosts mental health

Music singing group at Midhurst

People receiving mental health support from Coastal West Sussex Mind take part in singing group

A new choir, set up by Coastal West Sussex Mind’s Midhurst group, entertained people at the Grange Leisure Centre with an informal performance.

The programme, directed by local singer and choir leader Anna Tabbush, featured songs from around the world including the Caribbean, the rain forest, Bulgaria and South Africa, amongst others.

Coastal West Sussex Mind offers a variety of creative activities to promote mental health and well-being and is very grateful to the Rudland Charity Golf Day for funding the singing sessions. The charity relies on donations and fundraising for much of its work with young people, adults and older adults, including those with memory loss.

Midhurst area manager Toni Holloway said: “Singing is known to bring many benefits, supporting general emotional and physical well-being, as testified by the singers themselves.

“This is the second year running that we have benefitted from the annual golf day and we were pleased to have Phil and Denise Rudland visit us to hear the singing group for themselves. They spoke with members of the group and heard how it was mentally stimulating, increased confidence and lifted people’s mood. We really appreciate their support."
