Coastal West Sussex Mind to merge with Corner House

Corner House mental health support in Southwick

The Corner House, Southwick, joins us, strengthening mental health support in Adur and Worthing

Coastal West Sussex Mind (CWSx Mind) and The Corner House, Southwick, which is run by Shoreham District Mental Health Association are joining together to strengthen mental health support services for people in the Worthing and Adur areas. They will officially merge on October 1, 2019.

CWSx Mind chair Sally Lefroy said: “Over the last couple of years, we’ve been working together more collaboratively as we are both part of the Pathfinder Alliance of mental health providers in West Sussex.

“Now this merger is a great opportunity for both our charities to share their own expertise to benefit the people we support. The Corner House team are experienced in mindfulness and artistic work while CWSx Mind specialisms include supporting families, young people, recovery services for adults and anti-stigma work.”

There will be significant benefits to local people with mental health problems including:

  • Less complex services for the people seeking help
  • More seamless support for those in Worthing town centre and East Worthing who could get help at both town centre and Corner House venues
  • Sharing expertise
  • A more secure service
  • Management efficiencies, meaning more time spent supporting people.

Corner House chair Denise Carroll said: “The Boards have agreed to ensure the continuation of our much-valued Corner House, committing to keeping the name of the building and ensuring funds to support this and its services.

“We look forward to merging, with our charity becoming part of CWSx Mind and our current trustees joining and becoming part of CWSx Mind’s Board.”
