More raffle prizes are still needed for the Ryan Chapman Cup and family fun day which takes place for the fifth year to celebrate the life of the young Worthing father who died in 2013.
The event, at Worthing Rugby Club, Angmering, on Saturday July 8, has grown from a football tournament organized by Ryan’s friends to a full-on family event, complete with bouncy castle, children’s entertainment, live music, auction, zumba, performing arts displays, football training sessions and much more. More than 1,000 people are expected.
This year there are 24 men’s football teams of six aside, six ladies’ teams and 12 veteran teams who will be playing in six leagues.
All the money raised from the day is being given to Coastal West Sussex Mind to support our services across the county for people with mental health issues and to raise awareness and tackle stigma about mental health.
Ryan’s sister, Carrie Howell, one of the organisers for the event, said: “We think the work Coastal West Sussex Mind does, especially about changing people’s attitudes and perceptions around mental health, and their young people’s service is so important.
“We have plenty of local businesses supporting the Ryan Chapman Cup in different ways and a big thank you goes to them. It would be good if any other businesses or individuals would like to donate raffle prizes for the day.”
Businesses and organisations involved include: Stafford Johnson, Willpower, Oddswise, Ian Hart, Alan Atkinson Football Coaching, B&B All Floors, Pierview Building Services, Moving On Removals, Hairways, Pinnacle, Worthing Dynamos, Delamere Decorating Services, Waller & Son Property Services, Steels Plumbing and Heating, Collingwood and Batchelor, Protak, and, of course, Worthing Rugby Club.
Coastal West Sussex Mind chief executive Katie Glover said: “We are very grateful to Ryan’s family for continuing to support us. We rely on fundraising for much of our income which enables us to run our services. The event promises to be a great day out and a lovely tribute to Ryan.”
